This season, Dortmund often only have supplementary players: Marco Reus (right) comes into play for Karim Adeyemi in the Champions League semi-final against Pais Saint-Germain
The guesswork about Marco Reus’s future is over. The professional, revered as a cult player by Dortmund fans, will leave his hometown club at the end of the season and is looking for a new adventure.
As Marco Reus, the former captain of the Bundesliga club and 48-time German international, announced in a video message to the fans on Friday, the contract, which expires at the end of the season, will not be extended. “I spent more than half of my life in this club and enjoyed every day, although there were of course difficult moments,” said the 34-year-old.
“I already know that it will be difficult for me to say goodbye at the end of the season. And yet I am glad that there is now clarity and that we can concentrate fully on the important last games that are still to come.” Reus is looking for the end of his career, according to the statement again “a new adventure”.
The Dortmund native has worn the black and yellow jersey for twelve years since his return from Mönchengladbach in 2012 and spent a total of more than 21 years at BVB. In 424 games so far he has scored 168 goals and prepared 128 more goals. ́
