When I talk about us having a collective expression, it is that each player has a significant role in building this collective expression. Today’s game is proof of that”, said Mariano.
Soso commented on the two different stages of the match, where Sport found it difficult to find a goal in the first half, but took off in the second half. “In the first half, the team assumed a leading role, dominating the game, especially in exchange of passes, playing very far from Caíque (France), and the opponent played in a low block. I think this passing sequence was very good. When the team reaches 1-0 before the break, the second half becomes more open. The team was capable and had the initiative to build plays, but with an opponent who was more open and gave space than in the first half. The opponent played the second half trying to equalize in one block, and this facilitated less complex attacks”, he analyzed.
The red-and-black coach also analyzed the team’s good defensive moment. “I think defense is a collective task, and it starts mainly with the players who are closest to the ball, when the team loses possession. This distance relationship makes it easier to recover the ball and build plays again. But I think our team has to evolve in several aspects”, he said.
Sport returns to the field next Wednesday (15), when it goes to the interior of São Paulo to face Ituano, currently at the bottom of the competition. The red-black team is the isolated leader, with four wins in four games.
