McDonald’s says goodbye to Russia after 30 years: all 800 businesses will be sold

After 30 years in business, the famous fast food brand McDonald’s has announced that it will sell all its businesses in Russia. As early as March, it had closed all its restaurants in Russia, including the iconic Pushkin Square venue. “The humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the unforeseen environment that ensued have led McDonald’s to Ukraine that it is no longer possible to continue running the business in Russia,” he said.
What happened in March
Shortly after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, McDonald’s closed its 800 stores and Moscow’s response was to launch the fast food chain Zio Vanya. The trademark, registered on March 12, is practically identical to that of the US fast food chain: the two yellow arcs on a red background, in fact, are tilted ninety degrees to the right and form a letter “B”, which in Cyrillic corresponds to to the “V” of “Djadja Vanya”, uncle Vanya precisely, the title of an opera by Anton Chekhov. Uncle Vanya will open in the same abandoned McDonald’s stores and will offer the same menu as the US fast food chain: burgers and fries at much lower prices since only Russian ingredients will be used.
