Ministry of Culture deleted publication where it lamented the death of anthropologist Fernando Ríos Correa

Fernando Rios Correa, promoter of Piurani culture, dies.

The Ministry of Culture, on all its social networks, published a statement in which it regretted the death of the cultural manager Fernando Ríos Correa. But, moments later, he decided to delete it.

As is known, on the night of Thursday, May 2, the death of the renowned anthropologist, producer and generator of cultural content was announced. His followers and those who knew him expressed their regret and praise for his outstanding work in the dissemination of Piura culture.

Fernando Ríos had a community of more than 19 thousand followers on TikTok and almost 1,500 on Instagram, where he shared content related to the culture of Piura, addressing topics such as music and local traditions. His sudden departure took many by surprise, presumably due to a heart attack while at a shopping mall.

In addition to his work in social networks, Fernando had studied anthropology at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. In 2010, he launched the first edition of “El Pamphlet,” a medium of political and social satire that gained great popularity among university students and the community in general.

For this reason, the Culture sector expressed its regret through a publication that reads: “We regret the sensitive death of Fernando Ríos Correa. “Outstanding anthropologist and great promoter of Piuran culture, developing articles and research that value the customs and culture of Piura.” But then he deleted this message.

Lawyer Javier Curay pointed out the action of the Ministry of Culture. “Because the @MinCulturaPe Has the publication of the death of Fernando Ríos been deleted from all its networks? Who pushed to delete the post? Fernando worked for years in the Ministry of Culture. Not even for that reason did they stop the publication,” he noted.

According to a Piura digital media, the 33-year-old anthropologist died after experiencing decompensation in the Real Plaza shopping center, in Piura, around 7:00 pm on May 2.

At the moment, the place where the funeral ceremonies of the prominent cultural promoter, known for spreading the gastronomic and musical riches of the city of Piura, will be held has not been announced.

In his last publication on his Instagram account, made four days ago, Fernando Ríos Correa shared a photograph with the musician Mauricio Mesones, who gave a concert last Sunday at the Open Plaza in Piura.

As the hours passed, messages of condolence from his followers and friends have flooded Ríos’ social networks, expressing their regret for the sensitive loss.

El Pafleto was born in 2010, when Ríos Correa was inspired by seeing an internal magazine by Osiptel workers that made fun of themselves. He decided to create a small sketch that came to life in September of that year.

The second issue was published in May 2011, coinciding with the arrival of new students to the faculties of Social Sciences and Literature. The following year, the printed version expanded to other universities such as the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), the Universidad San Cristóbal de Huamanga and the Universidad San Agustín de Arequipa. Between San Marcos and the PUCP alone, more than 2,500 copies were distributed.

In 2013, El Pafleto made the leap to digital format to reach a broader audience than that restricted to universities. However, in 2021, the satire outlet faced censorship after receiving a series of complaints related to the content of its publications.
