Monsignor Gustavo Zanchetta, 57, former bishop of Oran in Argentina and friend of the Pope, was sentenced to 4 and a half years in prison for aggravated sexual abuse of two former seminarians. The sentence was handed down by an Argentine court after 4 years of trial.
The Argentine priest had been ordained bishop by Pope Francis and was bishop of Oran from 2013 to 2017, when he was called to Rome as assessor of APSA, Administration of the patrimony of the Apostolic See, on the eve of the circulation of the first news of abuses.
