In Montabaur, a town in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, three dead people, including a small child, were found in a residential area – all of them are said to have been shot. The alleged perpetrator was declared brain dead, and the police assume it was a “family drama”.
According to police, three people, including a small child, were killed in an act of violence in a residential area in Montabaur. Emergency services discovered the suspected perpetrator seriously injured after entering the building, a police spokesman said on Thursday. There is no longer any threat.
Shortly after the day of violence, according to the Koblenz public prosecutor’s office, the alleged perpetrator called his partner and told her about it. “According to current information, the accused told his partner by telephone shortly after the crime that he had killed three people,” the public prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. “They then alerted the police.”
Accordingly, the crime occurred early Thursday morning. After the police arrived, the armed suspect initially barricaded himself at the crime scene.

The police spoke to WELT about a “family drama” because all four people lived in the same apartment building and had the same address. Montabaur evacuated, suspected perpetrator probably suffered from depression
Previously, a large area in Montabaur, a city in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, had been cordoned off as a precaution. The police said one person had been in a psychological state of emergency since the early hours of the morning.
In order to exclude possible dangers for residents, passers-by and employees of surrounding companies, the area was cordoned off and evacuated. There are numerous police forces on site.

“We don’t yet know anything about the alleged perpetrator’s medical condition,” the police say. The man is believed to have suffered from severe depression and is in hospital. The Koblenz public prosecutor’s office is conducting the investigation.
