The Turkish customs administration announced today that 568 kilograms of drugs were seized at the Istanbul airport.

The Ministry of Trade of Turkey states that the authorities will continue their efforts to protect the people, especially children and young people, from drugs.

“We will not give a chance to drug dealers, who are a threat to our healthy future,” the Turkish ministry said in a statement.

Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said that last year in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan, around 12 tons of drugs were seized at border crossings and airports, Turkish media reported.

Drug smuggling in Turkey carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
