Hundreds of artists have come together to sign a letter demanding the protection of concert ticket buyers; among them figures such as Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Billie Eilish, Nile Rodgers o Is. The letter is addressed to the Senate Commerce Committee to approve the Fans First Act.
This law arises from the discontent over deceptive practices on the part of ticket resellers and some secondary purchasing platforms that multiply the price exorbitantly, going so far as to ask for up to twenty times more. The text they have signed highlights, among other things, the importance of combating these abusive practices with the prohibition of false entries and deceptive marketing tactics. According to the artists, a reseller should not make more money than the one offering the show, since they depend on touring to make a living.
The Fans First Act imposes harsh penalties on resales that do not show the original price or location. Additionally, the law seeks to reconcile the relationship between artists and fans, as concerts become increasingly less affordable. The letter explicitly stated that: “No one cares more about fans than artists.”
