Since starting his solo project more than a decade ago, Moses Doesn’t Sleep He has been polishing his style towards rap combined with funk and jazz. His proposal is not limited to kick drum and sampling, but rather absorbs instruments and organic elements that give it greater richness thanks to the production of the Navarrese collective. Seeing (of which the artist is a part along with other names such as Tarima Kendu, Ion Celestino, Jon Gómez or Iosu Ihabar). An evolution that is increasingly visible, as we can see by comparing their previous album “The village” and this “Angry”in which he leaves aside the influences of the most classic rap, leaning towards a more instrumental and organic sound full of nuances and meticulously cared for sound layers.
That’s how this is “Angry”, a fresh and agile, happy and dynamic work, far from the darkness prevailing in current rap where heavy drums and melancholic rhythms star in most of the productions. And so, in the thirteen songs that make up this LP Moisés takes us to living atmospheres, which flow freely like the river that gives its name to the album.
Moses is not alone on his journey. The album includes the collaborations of Mabreezee in “Distance runner”, Gazelle y Siroco Bluee in “Color and volume”, Raymond the Basket-weaver in “Pure” Huasi y Undiano in “Maps in case you got lost.” All of them adapt with note to the elegant and funky rhythms that, for the most part, we can find in this “Angry“.
Moises, member of the Pamplonica collective Emmaus Rappers, offers us with this album what today we can understand as a trip to the past. A musical deja vu with which the roots of rap coming from black music come to mind. Seasoned, furthermore, with the wit and irony of Moses Doesn’t Sleep when writing the letters.
