Historically, Mother’s Day is one of the most violent dates in terms of homicides in Colombia and although 44 cases were recorded in 2024, the Police reported that it is the lowest figure in the last 22 years, except for the year of the pandemic. , in 2020, when 42 events were recorded.
According to the institution’s balance sheet, the crime of homicide was reduced by 17 percent compared to 2023, saving 9 lives compared to the previous year, where 53 cases were presented.

The Police pointed out that on this Mother’s Day there were more than 29,000 police officers deployed focused mainly on patrolling and presence on the streets, articulated with video surveillance centers, which added to good citizen behavior made it possible to achieve the historic reduction in homicide.
“The good behavior demonstrated by the vast majority of Colombians, added to the prevention, deterrence and effective action against crime, allowed the celebration of the calmest Mother’s Day in the last 22 years,” the Police said in a statement. of press.
More than 5,000 summonses
The Police recorded an increase of 8 percent in the application of corrective measures for behaviors contrary to coexistence, going from 5,266 summonses in 2023 to 5,664 applied in 2024.
According to the institution, there were 2,248 summonses for carrying sharp weapons and 207 for temporary suspension of economic activity.
In addition, it was indicated that the application of corrective measures for fights on this Mother’s Day has been the highest in the last 7 years, registering a total of 663 summonses for these events in 2024. In comparison, in 2023 there were 539.

In general terms, the situations most attended to by the uniformed officers on this Mother’s Day, and which did not necessarily lead to the imposition of summonses in all cases, focused on the alteration and disturbance of tranquility, with 6,730 cases; fights, with 3,312 cases, domestic violence, with 1,585 cases; shootings, with 161 cases and conduct against children and adolescents, with 76 cases.
Regarding calls to the 123 emergency line, the Police indicated that on this Mother’s Day a decrease of 17 percent (-3,987) was recorded, going from 22,889 calls in 2023 to 18,902 in 2024. Bogotá concentrated 40 percent percent (7,561) of the total calls to 123.

Finally, the institution pointed out that on line 155 a 79 percent decrease was recorded in reports of violence against women, going from 34 to 7 cases in 2024.
The reasons addressed by line 155 were domestic violence, with five cases in Bogotá, Cali, Medellín, Bello and Ibagué; one case for threat in Pasto and one for abusive carnal access in Bogotá.
