New Alfa Romeo Milano: Up to 240 HP | auto-illustrated

Alfa Romeo’s new entry-level model Milano is here. The small SUV uses well-known Stellantis Group technology and is related to the Jeep Avenger and Peugeot 2008. The Milano will be available with hybrid and electric drives, with all-wheel drive and – the big surprise – a 240 hp top model called Veloce. The Alfa Romeo Milano will be available to order from May 2024. The starting price is not yet known, but it should be around 35,000 francs.

Sporty design

The black light bar is reminiscent of the Maserati 3200 GT.

The Alfa Romeo Milano has a sporty design that is typical of the brand. The optional matrix LED headlights with a three-part signature look grim, while the shield-shaped grill is based on historical models with various inlays. The rear is quite striking with the black light housing that is curved downwards. In photos the Milano appears larger than it actually is. Its dimensions are 4.17 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.5 meters high, while the trunk can accommodate up to 400 liters of luggage. There is a compartment for the charging cable in the frunk.

Alfa flair and Stellantis parts in the interior

The cockpit of the Milano has a few typical Alfa attributes. The digital cockpit lives in two round caves that are based on the round instruments of days gone by. The ventilation nozzles are intended to imitate four-leaf clovers, the trademark of the QV versions. For the first time at Alfa Romeo, the voice assistant in the 10.25-inch infotainment has access to the artificial intelligence ChatGPT. The Milano shares the buttons for the driving modes, the electric parking brake, the climate control and the gear selector lever with other Stellantis products.

Electric and as a hybrid

The Milano shares the platform with the Jeep Avenger, the Peugeot 2008 and the Opel Mokka. Like its Stellantis siblings, it is available in both pure electric and mild hybrid versions. The latter produces 136 hp and will be available with both front- and all-wheel drive Q4. The all-wheel drive will be introduced a little later. The electric version is available in two power levels. It starts with 156 hp and a range of 410 kilometers.

The Veloce sports model delivers a whopping 240 hp and has a sports suspension with a 25 millimeter lowering, stiffer stabilizers and a sports brake system. Both electric versions have a 54 kWh battery (gross). The electric Milano can be charged with up to 100 kW of direct current.

Special model for market launch

Initially, Alfa’s new model will only be available to order as the Milano Speciale. The special model has special paintwork with red accents, 18-inch rims, different seat covers, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with massage function, a parking aid with 180-degree camera and an electric tailgate. The Speciale is available with a hybrid or the 156 hp electric drive.

Milano as a profit driver

The Milano is intended to further advance Alfa Romeo’s path to profitability. The Italians still made millions in losses in 2021. Two years later, CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato turned things around and achieved 70 percent more profit at the end of 2023 than two years ago. This is mainly thanks to the Tonale, which accounts for a large part of the sales. According to Imparato, the Milano should be in the same vein. Imparato expects a sales share of around 40 percent. The Milano is intended to score particularly well in Europe, but it is sold all over the world. The Milano should not be a special offer even as an entry-level model:
