New forms of protest – Last generation puts an end to sticky protests – News
  • The activists of the “Last Generation” in Germany no longer want to stick themselves to the streets in the future, they announced this in a statement.
  • They want to continue their protests in a different way from March. Among other things, they want to confront politicians in front of cameras.
  • But protests, for example at airports, are still planned.

Two years after the start of their protests, the activists of the “Last Generation” want to draw attention to themselves and their demands with a new strategy. Instead of blocking streets in small groups and sticking themselves to the asphalt, people will hold “disobedient gatherings” together with many people, according to the message on the movement’s website.

From March onwards they want to call for this throughout Germany. Part of the new form of protest against climate policy should also include confronting politicians in front of cameras – and making an appeal to Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. It is said that he will be asked to speak publicly and honestly about climate destruction and the necessary change of course.

Environmental activists in Switzerland want to continue to stick to the streets – in contrast to the so-called last generation in Germany. According to Renovate Switzerland, the reason for this is “inaction and slow political decisions”.

“We have taken note of the new strategy of the last generation, but are not adopting it,” said Renovate Switzerland on Tuesday in response to a request from the Keystone-SDA news agency.

The Swiss activists do not want to give up sticking campaigns on streets. “We continue to need high-profile actions that wake people up and make them aware of the urgency of the climate catastrophe,” writes the resistance campaign, which was launched in April 2022.

In addition, the group announces that there will continue to be protests, for example at airports. Last year, activists blocked the runways in Hamburg, Munich and Düsseldorf, among other places.

Proceedings are also underway in courts across the country against activists of the “last generation” because of thousands of road blockades. Most recently, she canceled planned actions in favor of demonstrations against right-wing extremism.
