The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza has reported that the only dialysis center in Rafah has been forced to cease operations due to IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) activity. The Ministry stated that the closure of the dialysis center is a result of “bombing and the threat of Israeli occupation,” leading to the loss of human life and preventing the injured from accessing urgent medical treatment in neighboring countries.

The closure of the border crossings has exacerbated the situation, particularly for the movement of the wounded and sick, as well as for the entry of vital aid and medical supplies. The Ministry highlighted the dire consequences faced by the injured and sick population, who are now at risk of a slow death without access to necessary treatment and supplies, compounded by the inability to travel.

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the status of the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, with the Gaza Crossings Authority stating that the crossing has been closed for the fourth consecutive day. On the other hand, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories of Israel (COGAT) claimed that the crossing is open and ready to facilitate aid, with all incoming trucks being inspected and transferred to Gaza.

The closure of the border crossing, which is essential for delivering aid to Gaza, was initiated following a rocket attack that resulted in the deaths of four Israeli soldiers. The Ministry also disclosed that lists detailing the urgent medical needs of patients, such as those requiring treatment for tumors, liver transplants, and kidney transplants, have been sent to neighboring countries, but patients remain stranded due to the lockdown imposed by Israeli authorities.

In response to the crisis, the Ministry has issued a fervent appeal for immediate international pressure and action to save the lives of the sick and injured. They have called for the opening of the crossings and the facilitation of necessary medical and relief trucks to hospitals in Gaza. The situation remains critical as efforts to provide vital medical assistance to those in need continue to be impeded by ongoing restrictions and conflict in the region.
