Several African countries have expressed concern following Iran’s attack on Israel.
South Africa emphasized that all parties must “avoid any act that could increase tensions in a particularly fragile region” and urged the world not to forget the war in Gaza. The Department of International Relations and Cooperation stated, “Regardless of whether States believe their use of force is legal, it is never wise to resort to war, as inevitably it is ordinary people who bear the brunt of the conflict.”
Nigeria called on Iran and Israel to “act with restraint” and “avoid a broader conflict in the Middle East,” according to its Foreign Ministry. The Ministry urged both countries to reflect on the universal commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts for the advancement of global peace and security.
Kenyan President William Ruto commented that the attack “only serves to aggravate an already delicate situation in the Middle East.” Ruto condemned Iran’s attack, stating that it should be condemned by all peace-loving countries, and urged Israel to show maximum restraint.
Somalia urged all parties to “immediately stop further escalation and exercise maximum restraint,” according to Somalia’s foreign ministry. The ministry highlighted that the growing hostilities threaten regional stability and global security, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The international community continues to closely monitor the situation and calls for de-escalation to prevent further conflict and instability in the region.
