Patrick Mahomes was in the spotlight again! The star quarterback led his Kansas City Chiefs to their third Super Bowl triumph and was named MVP for the third time, but the unsung hero of the evening was Mecole Hardman.
The Chiefs wide receiver caught a pass from Mahomes in overtime, the decisive touchdown was perfect, and the Super Bowl immediately ended in Kansas City’s favor – something Hardman was completely unaware of at first.
“I had a blackout and forgot that we had just won the game,” explained the 25-year-old, who only got into the funnel in the 25:22 win against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas thanks to Mahomes.
“He looked at me, he had no idea,” Mahomes explained with a smile. “I said, ‘Boy, we just won the Super Bowl.’ He had no idea. He didn’t even celebrate at the beginning.”
It is also Hardman’s third Super Bowl triumph. He started the season with the New York Jets before returning to Kansas City in October after just five unsatisfactory games.
