Official announcement by March 2025

Rumors about the Nintendo Switch successor, also known simply as Switch 2, have been circulating the internet for some time now. Now Nintendo has officially spoken out and announced on X, that the successor to the Switch will be announced this fiscal year. That’s not really much, but at least it is now known that the official presentation by Nintendo will be made by the end of March 2025 at the latest. Because then Nintendo’s current fiscal year ends.

Nintendo President Shuntarō Furukawa pointed out in his contribution that it has now been more than nine years since the company announced the existence of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015.

It wouldn’t even be surprising if Nintendo made full use of the announced period of time. Fans have been speculating for a long time that the successor console could see the light of day on the tenth anniversary of the announcement of the Nintendo Switch.

Furukawa also warned that the announcement will not be made at the upcoming Nintendo Direct in June. Although some new games for the Nintendo Switch will be presented there, which could appear in the second half of 2024, the company does not want to release information about the Switch successor at this date.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch 2 is eagerly awaited. The first Switch proved to be extremely successful with its character as a hybrid console, especially after the previous console Wii U turned out to be an economic failure for the Japanese company.

The Nintendo Switch even became one of the most successful gaming consoles in history, with more than 138 million units sold worldwide. In terms of success, it only has to admit defeat to the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 2.
