Today, Thursday 15 February, we return to the Palazzo dei Congressi in Salsomaggiore Terme to award the first national titles of 2024.
In fact, the Italian Open Pairs Club Sports Championships will take place until Sunday 18 February.
This year there are important changes regarding the competition mechanism.
In fact, the division into Eccellenza series, A series and B series is overcome and the 3 new series are introduced: First Series 2024, Second Series 2024 and Third Series 2024.
- First Series 2024. It is made up of 40 couples: 26 registered in the former Eccellenza series and 14 drawn from the former A series (the best 14 not promoted to Eccellenza last year).
- Second Series 2024. It is made up of 80 couples: 58 registered in the former Serie A and 22 drawn from the former Serie B (the best 22 not promoted to Excellence last year).
- Third Series 2024. Registration is free; Therefore, all couples who meet the membership and registration fee requirements and who register within the deadline can participate.
The competition field will be further divided into groups:
- First Series 2024. The players will be divided into 2 groups
- Second Series 2024. The players will be divided into 4 groups
- Third Series 2024. The players will be divided into groups of 20 pairs
The format will also undergo changes. In fact, only the first phase of the Championship (19 matches of 4 deals) will be played in the distribution described previously. At the end of the first phase, the following will be formed:
- the Poule Scudetto, of 20 pairs, to which the first 8 pairs of each First Series group and the first of each Second Series group will be admitted. From this grouping the national champions will emerge. All couples will be admitted to the 2025 First Series
- Poule A, of 60 couples (divided into 3 groups of 20), to which the remaining 24 couples of the First Series will be admitted, the first place in each group of the Third Series and the best couples of the Second Series until the number of 60 pairs. In this group they will play for promotion to the 2025 First Series
- Poule B, to which the remaining couples will be admitted. In this group they will play for promotion to the 2025 Second Series
Carry-over is foreseen in all groupings.
