The soundtrack for the film “Poor Creatures”, by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, is one of the five nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Soundtrack. The film’s musical recording, by composer Jerskin Fendrix, features the theme ‘O Quarto (Fado Menor)’, performed by fado singer Carminho, who also participates in the film, opposite actress Emma Stone.
The other nominees in this category of the most important North American film awards are: “American Fiction” by composer Laura Karpman, “Indiana Jones and the Mark of Destiny” by composer John Williams, “Killers of the Flower Moon” by composer Robbie Robertson and “Oppenheimer” by composer Ludwig Göransson. The soundtrack for “Pobres Criaturas” also includes songs with titles alluding to Portugal: ‘Lisbon’ and ‘Portuguese Dance I’ and ‘Portuguese Dance II’.
In addition to being nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Soundtrack, “Poor Creatures” also competes for the awards for Best Film, Best Director (Yorgos Lanthimos), Best Leading Actress (Emma Stone), Best Supporting Actor (Mark Ruffalo), Best Screenplay Adapted, Best Characterization, Best Wardrobe, Best Editing, Best Photography and Production Design.
