Pakistan, bomb in a mosque in Peshawar: at least 30 dead

A suicide attack kills the faithful in Pakistan. A bomb exploded inside a Shia mosque in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing more than 30 worshipers and injuring many others. The police reported it. The explosion occurred as the faithful gathered in the Kucha Risaldar mosque in Peshawar’s old city for Friday prayers. According to the Pakistani authorities, the death toll is set to rise further as many of the injured are in serious condition. “We are in a state of emergency and the injured are now being transferred to hospital,” police officer Mohammad Sajjad Khan told the Reuters.

Again as reported by the Reuters, two armed men would have arrived aboard a motorbike, entering the mosque and shooting directly at the faithful. Police have not yet been able to determine whether both attackers later blew themselves up. The attack has not yet been postponed by any terrorist group but it represents one of the bloodiest against the Shiite minority in the country for many years now.
