The 2024 campaign to donate the expected portion of the tax return to PIME is underway: here is what we have achieved in recent years thanks to your signatures
We must believe in it together. This is the slogan of the new PIME Foundation campaign to collect signatures linked to the 5×1000 2024. A dedicated site (5xmille.centropime.org) awaits you to discover all the new contents that tell the extraordinary impact that a tool like the 5xmille has on the projects of our missionaries.
As you know, when you file your tax return you can donate a portion of the Irpef (equal to 5×1000 of the total) to support the works of PIME missionaries in 19 countries around the world in different areas: education, nutrition, healthcare and social promotion.
It is a gesture that costs nothing, since it is a portion of taxes that you would have to pay anyway: those who do not sign simply leave their Irpef in full at the disposal of the Italian State, thus giving up the possibility of choosing its final destination. Concrete results, free choice and gratuitousness: these are the key concepts that accompany us at the annual appointment with the 5xmille campaign.
This year too we want to put the mission at the center: you, us and all our missionaries around the world. The idea behind this campaign is that, among many needs and emergencies, each of us can make a difference, free of charge and wherever we want most. Doing it is simple: all you need is a signature on the tax return.
From 2009 to today we have obtained a total of over 164,000 signatures which have allowed us to carry out, together with our missionaries, numerous development and support projects for thousands of women, children, young people, people with disabilities and entire communities. Thanks to you we have built a new maternity ward at the St. Vincent Hospital in Dinajpur in Bangladesh, we have donated a new school to the children of Nloren in Guinea-Bissau, we have sent aid to Thailand, Myanmar and to all PIME missions.
Medical clinics, school classrooms, assistance to the sick and people with disabilities, training courses for young people and adults, recreational centers, wells and drinking water: many concrete gestures of hope, stories that thanks to the work of the PIME missionaries you have been able to change and make it better. Signatures that have become concrete interventions in our missions. Each of us with 5xmille can change the lives of many people in the world for the better.
Here are some of the fruits of your signatures, told by those who see them every day: «Every week a nurse and a doctor come to visit those in need – writes Father Gianluca Tavola from Cambodia, responsible for the “I care” project financed by 5xmille funds in 2023 -. As for mental health activities, pharmacological assistance is often also intertwined with financial support. Offering the opportunity to raise a cow or open a small shop is often part of the therapy, because many psychological problems and tensions are fueled by poverty.”
Father Franco Beati, head of the “Education for all” project financed by 5×1000 funds in 2022, says from Guinea-Bissau: «Thanks to your generosity, I can sow concrete gestures of hope, such as allowing one of these little ones to go to school. It would be a right, but in Africa it is not so obvious. We see our catechism children all happy when they have to go to school and when they return from lessons. They have to walk 4 or 5 kilometers, but we still see them happy. It is their right, and thanks to you we make it possible. We also carried out the construction work on the nursery for the children of the village of Nloren and surrounding areas: until recently they found themselves under a simple gazebo, now finally they have a real nursery at their disposal. It is a gift and a sign of hope for these children!
Again from Guinea-Bissau, Father Davide Sciocco, head of the “Radio Sol Mansi” project financed by 5xmille funds in 2021, states: «The radio continues its service for peace and the defense of rights. The denunciation made by Radio Sol Mansi of police violence against those demonstrating in the streets caused a sensation, even abroad: the courage and strength of the truth that cannot be chained by the power of force!
In 2023, 7,646 people donated their 5×1000 to the PIME Foundation for free, but for every citizen who signs there are just as many who still don’t know the potential of this important gesture.
