After seven years without theatrical releases, the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean” remains in uncertain waters. Speaking to ComicBook.comthe producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented on the status of the new film and confirmed that it will be a reboot.

About “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Top Gun 3” and which one might be released first, Bruckheimer says:

“It is hard to say. You don’t know how they develop. You just don’t know. Because with ‘Top Gun’ you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he makes before he makes ‘Top Gun,’ I can’t tell you. But we’re doing a reboot of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ so it’s easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”

In the past, projects related to “Pirates of the Caribbean” even cast Margot Robbie in a starring role, in addition to raising the possibility of Jack Sparrow returning with Johnny Depp. In September 2023, Craig Mazinshowrunner they “The Last of Us“, he revealed to Los Angeles Times who presented a project to Disney with “a weird script” by Ted Elliott, which the studio liked:

“We presented it and thought there was no way they would agree, it’s very strange. And they liked it! And then he [Elliott] wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone was waiting.”

There is no confirmation, however, whether the script Mazin refers to would be from Margot Robbie’s canceled project or the reboot mentioned by Bruckheimer. There is still no release date for the next “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
