Ponte Preta misses a penalty and Goiás wins its first in Series B

Ponte Preta continues without winning in Series B of the Brazilian Championship. This Sunday, they were easy prey for Goiás, who disenchanted at the Hailé Pinheiro stadium, in Goiânia (GO), and won 3-0. Before the goals, the visitors had the chance to take the lead, but Jeh wasted a penalty, defended by Thaddeus.

Goiás, who had drawn 1-1 with Ceará, away from home, reached four points and is in the middle of the table. Santos, Sport, Chapecoense and Operário-PR already have six points. Ponte Preta only has one point, because they drew 1-1 in their debut with Coritiba.

The duel started out balanced, with chances for both sides, but without causing much danger to the opponent’s goal. Until, in the 19th minute, Jeh was thrown deep and when he went to shoot, he ended up getting pushed from behind by the defender. Connected to the move, the referee awarded a penalty. The attacker himself went for the charge, but hit poorly and Tadeu made the save.

Goiás’ response came in the 31st minute, opening the scoring. Rafael Gava crossed, the defense made a mistake and Marcão Silva appeared at the second post to score the ball in the back of the net. In the final minutes, the duel remained lively, but went to halftime with a partial victory for the home team.

In the second half, Goiás secured the victory with two goals in less than 30 minutes. In another ball sent into the area, at 16, Rafael Gava hit a free kick in the area and Edson appeared between the defenders to head the ball into the goal.

At 27, Thiago Galhardo launched Marcão Silva into the area and he crossed. At first, Ponte Preta’s goalkeeper made the save, but on the rebound, Breno Herculano only completed the ball into an open goal. From then on, Goiás controlled the victory.

The two teams return to the field next weekend to compete in the third round of Series B. On Sunday, May 5th, Goiás visits Brusque, at the Hercílio Luz stadium, in Itajaí (SC). On Monday, Ponte Preta will host Amazonas, at 8pm, at Moisés Lucarelli stadium, in Campinas (SP).
