(Vatican News Network)A time to hug, pray and listen to the poor. This will be a feature of Pope Francis’s trip to Assisi, Italy on November 12, and it will also be a time to prepare for the 5th World Day of the Poor. World Poor People’s Day was established by Pope Francis to awaken people to listen to the cry of the poor and the suffering. The Holy See Committee for the Promotion of New Evangelization explained in an announcement on the Pope’s trip that the Pope will go to Assisi for a private event: after the angels, the Basilica of the Virgin Mary will meet 500 poor people from different parts of Europe. And spend a moment of listening and praying with them.

This will be the fifth time the Pope has visited Assisi. The first visit was on October 4, 2013, and then on August 4, 2016, to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Assisi Forgiveness Festival. On September 20 of the same year, the Pope went to Assisi again to participate in prayers for world peace. The fourth visit to Assisi was on October 3, 2020, where he signed the “Brothers” encyclical.
