(Vatican News Network)The Pope donated money for the construction of a refugee camp in the town of Lipa in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. This initiative, promoted by the Holy See’s Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a humanitarian aid designed to enable people in the Lipa refugee camp to live a dignified life. On the morning of July 1, the Archbishop Luigi Pezzuto, the Holy See’s ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Pope’s donation was used to build two multifunctional halls and lunch rooms for families and minors in the Lipa refugee camp. The building is under construction. The Caritas of Banja Luka, the Caritas of Milan, Italy, and two other non-governmental organizations also contributed to the construction and management of this building.

Archbishop Pezuto was interviewed by this news website on July 1. He said that these buildings were built to help the refugees feel more at home. “This is not the pope’s first care move.” The archbishop explained, “We have built and opened two small centers in October last year. Children can play indoors because it is a mountainous area and the winter is very cold.” Archbishop Pezuto went on to say that these places not only provide shelter, but also help create harmony among immigrants.

The Holy See’s ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina pointed out that these migrants need better living conditions, and it is also necessary to improve their relations and reactions. This is the result of years of suffering and travel while they are waiting to find a shelter. Archbishop Pezuto also mentioned the term “humanization” many times.

Archbishop Pezuto finally stated that the people living in the Lipa refugee camp are restrained and they want to leave here, but the surrounding area is closed. The care of all countries is needed to distribute them evenly to different places and countries.
