Porsche Taycan Turbo GT sprints to 100 in 2.2 seconds

As recently announced, Porsche is introducing the Taycan Turbo GT. The top version of the facelifted Taycan offers up to 815 kW of drive power, which is another 115 kW more than the previous top version Turbo S. The version with the Weissach package sprints to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds and reaches up to 305 km/h.

What is probably more important for Porsche than performance and sprint data is that the car performs well on the Nürburgring. And there was a pre-production version with the Weissach package 26 seconds faster than the Turbo S with performance package.

815 kW drive and SiC inverter at the rear

The Taycan Turbo GT has a drive output of 580 kW – with and without the racetrack package. With launch control, the power increases to 760 kW and even 815 kW is delivered for two seconds. The maximum torque reaches 1,340 Nm for both versions.

The Taycan Turbo GT needs 2.3 seconds to sprint from zero to 100 km/h; with the Weissach package it is a tenth of a second less. The difference is greater in the 200 km/h sprint: the Taycan Turbo GT needs 6.6 or 6.4 seconds, the Turbo S needs up to 1.3 seconds longer. The top speed of the Turbo GT is 290 km/h, with the Weissach package 305 km/h. Prices start at around 250,000 euros. That’s about 33,000 euros more than the Turbo S, which is only a tenth or two slower when sprinting.

Porsche says nothing about a three-motor drive, as suspected in advance. The manufacturer mentions in the press release that the Taycan received a new rear engine in the latest facelift. It is not clear from the message whether the Turbo GT has the same hardware.

In any case, a more powerful and efficient inverter is used on the rear axle. It works with up to 900 amps and therefore enables even more power and torque than the 600 amp device from the Turbo S. Silicon carbide semiconductors are used for higher efficiency and therefore more range. Silicon carbide technology is also used in the rear axle drive of the new Macan. In addition, the gear ratio was modified and the robustness of the transmission was improved so that it can withstand the high torque.

“Attack Mode” and less weight

A special feature of the Turbo GT is that Attack Mode. Activated at the push of a button, it provides additional power of up to 120 kW for 10 minutes. The function is based on the “Push to Pass” technology of the other Taycan models, but offers 50 kW more.

Thanks to lightweight construction, the weight of the Taycan Turbo GT has been reduced by up to 75 kilos compared to the Turbo S. Numerous carbon parts contribute to this. That too “Porsche Active Ride” chassis (Porsche explanation on this) against swaying and pitching is standard; it was specially tailored to the GT engine.

The equipment also includes high-performance tires on lightweight 21-inch forged wheels and ceramic brakes, which are based on the Porsche Carbon-Ceramic Braking System (PCCB), but are over two kilos lighter.

The visual characteristics include a special front spoiler and an adaptive rear wing – meaning that it is not fixed, but adapts to the driving situation or mode. LED headlights with Matrix technology are standard equipment, Matrix LED light is available at no extra charge. There are also six body colors to choose from. Inside there is a mix of sporty Race-Tex equipment and black leather.

The Weissach package

The version with the Weissach package offers aerodynamically more favorable air baffles on the underbody and a different front diffuser. There is one here at the rear fixed Wings with Weissach package logo. This results in a downforce of up to 220 kilos.

By dispensing with all the features that are not necessary for the racetrack, around 70 kilos were saved. So there is only one shelf instead of the rear seats. The sports chrono package’s analog clock and floor mats were also removed, and the insulation material was also reduced.

In addition, there are not loading flaps on both sides like on the normal Taycan, but only on the passenger side. The flap is not operated electrically, but manually. Other lightweight construction measures include lighter glass panes and the elimination of rear speakers. Why the car has an audio system at all remains an open question – even the most casual racing experts are unlikely to listen to the radio on the lap. Deliveries of the Taycan Turbo GT will start this spring.

All things Considered

The fastest electric car on the Nürburgring is still the Rimac Nevera, but the Turbo GT comes within two seconds of it – remarkable. So the Turbo GT will probably be bought by people who have a passion for the race track, but for whom a Nevera is too expensive and too radical – and who are not embarrassed by a rear wing.
