The renewal of the Parliament

Covid-positive people will be able to vote in person with specific health measures: the recommendation is that they do so between 18 and 19

Polls are open in Portugal, where early elections have been called to renew Parliament following the fall of the center-left ruling coalition last autumn. The polls will close at 7 pm local time, 8 pm in Italy. About 10.8 million people are called to vote. According to the latest Portuguese media polls, the electoral round is uncertain: the socialist party of the outgoing premier Antonio Costa has the advantage, but the center-right rivals of the social democratic party are only a few percentage points away.

The country faces these elections while it is still struggling with a strong wave of Covid: about 1.2 people are currently in isolation, according to the latest official data. Covid-positive people will still be able to vote in person with specific health measures: the recommendation is that they do so between 18 and 19.
