The Viana do Castelo PSD council withdrew, with immediate effect, political confidence in councilor and activist Eduardo Teixeira, for disrespecting that political structure and tarnishing the party’s name, it was announced today.
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the PSD of Viana do Castelo explains that “the institutional disrespect of the activist and councilor elected by the PSD/CDS-PP coalition Eduardo Teixeira for the city council, towards the political commission, has been increasing, taking positions in council meetings contrary to the political guidelines issued, even disrespecting the party’s statutes”.
The council also highlights that “the news about the possibility of PSD activist, Eduardo Teixeira, heading the list for another party has been floating around for days in the local and national media and inexplicably has never been denied by him, tarnishing the good name of the PSD” .

For the social-democratic council led by Orlando Antunes, this is “an intolerable situation”, which forced the political committee, “in defense of both the values of the party and those of Viana”, to decide “to immediately withdraw political confidence to councilor and PSD activist Eduardo Teixeira”.
With that decision, taken on Wednesday at a meeting of that party body, “the Viana do Castelo PSD demarcates itself from any and all political positions and decisions that Eduardo Teixeira may take as councilor in the Viana do Castelo Chamber”.
For the social-democratic council, “whenever Eduardo Teixeira was present at meetings of the political commission, where he inherently takes place and to which he was always summoned, his stance was to condition the political action of this political commission”.
According to the PSD, Eduardo Teixeira, “did not disclose internally and in a timely manner the documentation supporting the matters included in the agendas of the council executive meetings”, maintains the council”.
The party structure states that “their positions and voting direction in the Viana do Castelo Chamber serve to subsequently condition and pressure municipal deputies to follow the same direction in their votes”.
For the PSD, with that way of acting, Eduardo Teixeira makes the deputies in the Municipal Assembly “follow the political lines of the council and do not comply with the political guidelines that the political commission, statutorily legitimized for the purpose, previously indicates to them”.
