Qatar U-23 national team goalkeeper Youssef Abdullah cried in the corridor of the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium after receiving a red card in the 41st minute against Japan in the quarter-finals 2024 U-23 Asian CupThursday (25/4) evening WIB.

In the 41st minute Qatar goalkeeper Youssef Abdullah was sent off by referee Hanna Hattab with a straight red card for committing a serious violation for landing his foot on the stomach of Japanese player Mao Hosoya in an aerial duel in front of the Qatar penalty box.

The referee checked VAR before deciding to give Youssef Abdullah a red card.

Youssef Abdullah and the Qatar players protested to referee Hanna Hattab due to the red card.

However, the referee from Syria did not change his decision. Youssef Abdullah also had to leave the field.

When walking down the hallway towards the dressing room, Youssef Abdullah was seen crying while prostrating himself in the hallway of the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

Qatar coach Ilidio Vale decided to withdraw striker Khaled Ali to replace substitute goalkeeper Ali Nader.

The first half of Qatar vs Japan ended with a score of 1-1. Japan managed to take a quick 1-0 lead in the second minute through Fuki Yamada’s hard shot from outside the Qatar penalty box.

In the 24th minute, Qatar managed to equalize the score at 1-1 through Ahmed Al Rawi’s header following Abdullah Al Yazidi’s assist.

Then at the start of the second half, precisely in the 49th minute, Qatar managed to take a 2-1 lead through Jassem Jaber’s header after continuing his teammate’s free kick. When this news was published Qatar was still leading 2-1 over Japan until the 50th minute.
