Real Mallorca has one on Sunday (April 28th). 1-1 draw in the away game against FC Cádiz fetched. The game was a duel between two relegation candidates in the first division. An own goal from former Schalke player Omar Mascarell prevented the island club from winning.
For Cádiz, five points behind the non-relegation places, the game was almost the last chance. The Andalusians got off to a powerful start, but were unable to create a goal-scoring opportunity. Hit out of nowhere RCD-Torjäger Vedat Muriqi after twelve minutes. He dived into a cross and finished with a diving header.
As a result, there was a pure relegation battle. There was kicking, there was complaining and very little football was played. Apart from a Cádiz bicycle kick in stoppage time in the first half, which was ultimately not particularly dangerous, nothing more happened.
Own goal after a cross
Even after the restart, the game continued to plod along. Similar to the first half, the goal came as quite a surprise. The Former captain of FC Schalke 04 wanted to clear a cross under pressure, but headed into his own goal. Cádiz smelled the morning air and had a great chance, but Sergie Guardiola’s long-range shot went just wide.
Things got dramatic in the final phase. Real Mallorca had a great chance three minutes before the end in the person of Sergi Darder. Alone in front of the goalkeeper he thought too long and missed the post. A short time later, RCD goalkeeper Rajkovic flew past the ball and was lucky that the hosts did not hit the empty goal.
There are still five games left this season. Real Mallorca is now six points ahead of Cádiz. A win would probably have meant early relegation. Even so, the chances are pretty good. The direct comparison of both teams is now balanced. In the therefore decisive goal difference Real Mallorca (-12) is ahead of Cádiz (-23). In other words, the Andalusians probably have to get seven more points than the Mallorcans in the five games if they want to overtake them. That sounds pretty unlikely.
