Roxette starts tour with new, prominent singer

Roxette had its last live performance in Cape Town in 2016 – and the restart is scheduled to take place there in February. Lena Philipsson sings instead of the late front woman Marie Fredriksson.

With the death of singer Marie Fredriksson in December 2019, the end came for the successful Swedish band Roxette. Mastermind Per Gessle has now announced on his social media channels that he wants to go on tour again with the extensive catalog of hits from 2025. He was able to engage the Swedish star Lena Philipsson as a singer.

Roxette, founded in 1986, started off with its second album “Look Sharp!”, churned out hits like “The Look,” “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride” and is considered to have sold around 80 million records one of the most successful pop bands of the 1980s and 1990s. Fredriksson’s cancer in the early 2000s forced the duo to take a break of several years. In 2009 the band plunged into their second, no less successful career phase, until in 2016 the final end could no longer be avoided – Fredriksson’s illness had returned.

Roxette performed its last live performance in Cape Town in 2016 – and the restart will take place there on February 26, 2025. An extensive Australian tour follows in March, but there are no European dates yet.

“It’s all about my Roxette songs, this huge bundle of music and lyrics that I’ve been writing for well over three decades. I’m not starting a new duo. Marie will always be irreplaceable. However, I am really happy to have found a great voice and a brilliant interpreter in Lena Philipsson,” explains Gessle. (APA)
