A Samara, the sixth largest city in Russia, the first funeral of a Russian soldier who died during military operations in Ukraine was held. Flowers and flags filled a room in the military history museum, as uniformed boys stood at attention near the body in photos broadcast in state media.

On February 28, for the first time, Russia admitted that there were “dead and wounded” among its soldiers engaged in the war in Ukraine. Moscow does not provide any budget, but according to a senior Western intelligence official, more than 5,000 soldiers have been captured or killed so far.
