Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, October 17 news, the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the 17th that a Russian MiG-31 fighter was flying with a US B-1B strategic bomber over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan that same day.
The statement said that the Russian surveillance equipment found a target close to the Russian border over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan on the same day, and a MiG-31 fighter jet from the Eastern Russian Military District immediately lifted off to identify the target. It was confirmed that the air target was a US B-1B strategic bomber. Russian fighter planes accompanied it to prevent it from infringing on the Russian border.
The statement said that the Russian fighters strictly abide by the rules for the use of international airspace during the accompanying flight.
