BERLIN – “The question of joining alliances is practically not on the agenda”. It’s just after three when Olaf Scholz formulates a concept from Kiev that could cool the inflamed eastern front. After an interview with the Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelensky, the chancellor answers a question about Ukraine’s accession to NATO. And he robs her, in fact, from a fairy tale invented by the Russians: “It is curious to observe how the Russian government has transformed something that is not on the agenda into a great political question”.
