The death of Carl Weathers at the age of 76 has moved the world of cinema but also fans of the “Rocky” saga of which the deceased actor was one of the stars. Sylvester Stallone reacted last night to the death of his friend, recalling how much he contributed to the success of films centered on boxer Rocky Balboa.
But Carl Weathers had also collaborated with the other heavyweight of action cinema of the 1980s: Arnold Schwarzenegger. Both teamed up in “Predator”, one of the Austrian-born actor’s cult films.
Released in 1987, this film directed by John McTiernan featured a team of mercenaries who came to rescue hostages in the middle of the Guatemalan jungle. So in the middle of a mission, the guys suddenly found themselves chased and attacked by a fearsome, almost invisible alien.
In this cinema classic, Schwarzenegger played the mission leader, Dutch Schaefer. At his side, we found a virile team made up of actors Bill Duke, Sonny Landham, Richard Chaves, Shane Black, Jesse Ventura and Carl Weathers.
Very touched by the death of Weathers, Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke on social networks: “Carl Weathers will always be a legend, an extraordinary athlete, a fantastic actor and a wonderful person. We couldn’t have made “Predator” without him. And we certainly wouldn’t have had such a wonderful time making it. Every minute spent with him – on and off set – was pure joy. He was the kind of friend who pushed you to do your best, just to keep up with him. I will miss him and my thoughts are with his family,” writes the actor.
