– The police have launched a search for a 90-year-old man. He is missing from his residence. The man should wear a light jacket with green inserts, brown trousers and black shoes. He is described as having a slightly forward-leaning gait, the police reported on Twitter/X shortly after 3pm.

By then, six hours had passed since the man disappeared from his residence, and no one had observed him since 09:00.

Shortly after 18.00, operations manager Ottar Steinstø can state that the man has been found safe and sound.

– He found a patrol walking along a side road, he says.

Missing for many hours

It was the family who reported the man missing at 1 p.m. That is, four hours after he disappeared from his residence.

– The family spent some time looking for the man themselves, before they reported him missing, Steinstø told SB at 4pm.

Large forces were deployed in the search for the man. It was made easy with both a drone and a helicopter, in addition to volunteers being involved in the search.

– We have called in close to ten people from Sandefjord Red Cross, and there may be more from other departments in the county, said Philip Thomassen, responsible for liaison in Sandefjord Red Cross, to SB at 5pm.

Volunteers from the Red Cross in Larvik, as well as Norwegian People’s Aid Grenland, also came to Sandefjord to contribute to the search for the man.

Action leader for the Red Cross, Sigbjørn Ljusnes, can say that there were 20 crews from the Red Cross and two from Norwegian People’s Aid involved in the action. In addition, Norwegian Rescue Dogs participated with several equipment.

In addition to foot crews, the Red Cross provided drones, boats and ATVs, which are important equipment for a search operation of this type.

And luckily, it all ended well with the man being found, nine hours after he disappeared from his home.

Today’s second

The search operation was the second in Sandefjord on Thursday. Earlier in the day, a search operation was launched for two 11-year-old girls. Fortunately, the girls were found after a relatively short time.

– The girls were found safe in the area around Preståsen. They are looked after by their relatives, said police station chief in Sandefjord Siw Thokle to SB.
