Sebastian Ofner loses opening match at ATP Masters in Rome

Sebastian Ofner failed to pass the opening hurdle of Yoshihito Nishioka at the ATP 1000 tournament in Rome.

The 27-year-old lost to the current number 80 in the ATP rankings in three sets 3:6, 6:2, 6:7 (4). After his first round defeat in Madrid, Ofner is facing another early exit.

The first set doesn’t start as desired for the Austrian, after an immediate break he has to give it 3:6. In the second set, Ofner found his way into the game better and equalized confidently. The decision is very balanced, with the Japanese ultimately having the better end.

In the match tiebreak, Ofner quickly moved ahead to 3-0, but then lost his next two service points and had to admit defeat. Due to the defeat, the Styrian could fall out of the top 50 in the world rankings next week.
