Serbia, President Vucic claims victory in the elections

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic claimed a large victory in the first round of the presidential elections on Sunday 4 April, together with the great success of his Serbian Progress Party (SNS, Conservative) in the early parliamentarians held simultaneously with the presidential and administrative elections in Belgrade and in other 13 Municipalities. Speaking late in the evening at his party headquarters, flanked by members of the government and party leaders, Vucic said that, based on data compiled by his party staff, he scored between 59.9% and the presidential. 61%, equal to 2,250 thousand votes.

His main opponent Zdravko Ponos, candidate of the united opposition, – he added – got 17.7%, Milos Jovanovic of the Nada movement (Hope for Serbia) got 5.9%. According to Vucic, the parliamentarians obtained 44%, the united opposition went to 13.6%, the Socialist Party (SPS) of Ivica Dacic 11.4%. His speech was greeted by continuous applause from his supporters, who have long cheered him. “I thank everyone,” said Vucic, who stressed that the election day was spent in an orderly and calm manner, with the exception of a few isolated attempts to create tension.

Numerous irregularities in the vote, in fact, were denounced by Dragan Djilas, head of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP) and one of the leaders of the main opposition cartel. Speaking at the polling station after voting in Belgrade, Djilas said he had news of votes without identity documents, of votes cast for others, of people voting in other polling stations and not in their own.
