Shooting near the Kansas City Chiefs Superbowl victory parade: one dead and 22 injured

WASHINGTON. It was just supposed to be a big party to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs’ second consecutive Superbowl. Instead, as the parade – the open bus, confetti, a city painted with the team’s colors red and orange – was coming to an end, gunshots rang out from the area near Union Station. One person died and 22 people were injured, Fire Department chief Michael Hopkins reported: among them 7 in serious condition, and there are also 8 children. Among these there are also children. The White House, immediately informed, is closely following what is happening. Federal agents also intervened immediately.

The police announced that three armed people were immediately arrested.

The shots came from the western wing of the station. At that moment there were hundreds of Chiefs fans, the parade had recently passed nearby.

The police quickly evacuated the concourse and areas adjacent to the station. And he invited people to find shelter towards the South. Governor Laura Kelly was also evacuated from the area and the police – with a post on X – announced that they were “out of danger”.

Union Station is a 109-year-old building that was once a rail hub in the heart of the Midwest. It currently houses a museum and is a point of attraction.
