Silvio Santos’ daughter makes Portiolli stop crying with a gift and invitation to a new attraction on SBT

Daniela Beyruti, vice-president of SBT, made a surprise appearance on Domingo Legal to pay tribute to Celso Portiolli for his 30-year career at the broadcaster. After describing on air some of the programs he led, Silvio Santos’ daughter made the presenter emotional by presenting him with a plaque commemorating the date. Furthermore, Dani invited Portiolli to do a new edition of Curtido Uma Viagem, an attraction shown between 2001 and 2002 on the channel.

“He (Silvio Santos) is very proud of you. He made many bets and thank God many bets he made were very successful. He is very proud of them. You were a bet and you certainly make him and SBT very proud. It’s a great pleasure to have you with us. We feel very close to you. You represent SBT in an incredible way”, said Daniela.

During the tribute, the station’s executive recalled some programs that Portiolli commanded at the station and invited him to return to command Curtido uma Viagem. “If you’re up for it, I’m up for it,” said the presenter of Domingo Legal. “We’re going to celebrate our 30th birthday”, replied Daniela.

Then, the presenter held back crying after reading a text engraved on a plate that was delivered to the program’s stage as a gift.

The text read on air follows: “March 3, 1994. It was a Thursday. That day began the journey of one of SBT’s most dedicated and captivating employees. After watching a VHS tape with suggestions, Silvio Santos bet on his talent. First behind the camera and then as a presenter. And you took off. More than audience numbers, the Brazilian people love you, Celso. Just like us, your co-workers. We are full of pride for this significant date. You have SBT’s DNA. Thank you for so much! Here’s to many years and much more success. Congratulations on your 30 years with SBT. A tribute from the SBT family.

“It’s crazy. When I joined SBT, 30 years ago, Silvio Santos was a little older than I am today. Is a long time. With all the vigor, energy and talent, he provides opportunities for new talents and presenters. It was even an argument that I used with him in the dressing room, when I went to ask for a chance… When I think that when I came here, Silvio Santos was exploding and at his peak, I’ve been with him and with him for 30 years. SBT. Is a long time. It seems like I started yesterday. I would like to thank the Abravanel family for their continued support and affection. The SBT family because it’s the place where I say: ‘I have my home, with my family, and my second home is here. I feel very good, I’m friends with everyone, I’m treated well by everyone. I’m friends with everyone and it’s great to work at SBT.”

Celso Portiolli

Celso Portiolli debuted in 1996 on the channel presenting Passa ou Repassa replacing Angélica, who had signed with Globo. In addition to Domingo Legal, among the programs led by him are: Tempo de Alegria (1997), Xaveco (1998 – 2001), Curtindo uma Viagem (2001 – 2002) and Sabadão (2015 – 2017).

“I want to thank Silvio for, from the moment I asked for the chance, he had the attitude to challenge me. In the first conversation he said: ‘Do you want to be a presenter? Here you are not going to be a presenter. Nobody knows you, there is no space on the schedule and no program for you’. And I always said: ‘I’m going to be a presenter’. It was a fight, so much so that in my first contract it had everything and it didn’t say presenter. He was the one who did it and asked to put it on when I got the first opportunity to record a pilot. I thought I had lost the chance of my life and he said: ‘It’s good. Record one more, with the same clothes, and I’ll put it on the air’… I remember I got home, there was only a sofa that I bought and a TV that I won in an SBT raffle. Sitting with Suzana (his wife), suddenly, the program went on air and from then on my life started to change”, recalled Portiolli.
