Diego Gallardo, known in the artistic world as “Aire del Golfo”, tragically lost his life on January 9th while attempting to protect his son during violent events in Guayaquil. This was confirmed by his partner, Camille Gamarra, who described his actions as heroic. Gallardo is one of at least 8 people who died in the port city due to the escalating violence, which led President Daniel Noboa to decree internal armed conflict.

Gamarra shared a heartfelt message dedicated to the singer, expressing that their son could not have had a better father. She also expressed admiration for Gallardo and his accomplishments in music and culture.

In recognition of his bravery, the president of the National Assembly, Henry Kronfle, announced that the musician will posthumously receive the distinction of National Hero. However, CNN is trying to contact the corresponding authorities to confirm the cause of the artist’s death.

Miguel Angel Loor, the president of the Professional Football League of Ecuador, also expressed his sorrow and personal connection to Gallardo, lamenting the loss of a family member.

The Ministry of Culture and Heritage of Ecuador extended their condolences to Gallardo’s family, highlighting the significant void left in Ecuadorian music by his passing. Among his most popular songs on Spotify are “Mujer Pitahaya”, “However”, and “De pie”. The artist was known for his music inspired by his hometown, becoming active in 2016.

In a touching tribute, Gamarra thanked Gallardo for his love and teaching her about free and boundless love, recognizing his enduring legacy.
