The Italian gave defending champion Daniil Medvedev no chance in the semifinals with a score of 6:1, 6:2. With the confident success against Russia, fourth in the world rankings, Sinner extended his annual record to 21 wins in 22 matches.
“It just felt great on the court today,” said Sinner after demonstrating his strength in just 69 minutes. Medvedev certainly didn’t feel that great, “he made a lot of mistakes that he wouldn’t normally make, and I took advantage of the opportunities. I expected a really tough match.”
Final against Zverev?
In the final on Sunday, the 22-year-old will face Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) or Grigor Dimitrow (Bulgaria). In addition to the title at the Grand Slam highlight in Melbourne, Sinner also won the tournament in Rotterdam this season. He was only eliminated in the semi-finals at the Masters in Indian Wells.

The game between Sinner and Medvedev (28) is developing into a permanent duel on the ATP tour. Last year the two rivals faced each other six times, making it their eleventh meeting in total.
Sinner seems to have decoded Medvedev: After six defeats, he won the last five matches – at the Australian Open after being 0-2 sets down.
If Sinner wins the title in Florida, he will move past Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz into second place in the world rankings. Despite the defeat, Medvedev remains safely in fourth place ahead of Olympic champion Zverev.
