If you want a new Skoda without a combustion engine – as of today – you have to choose one of the two Enyaq models. This monoculture will soon be over. The Elroq is due to arrive this year. At around 4.4 m, it will be about the same size as the current Karoq. An offshoot of the VW ID.2all and the small E-SUV Epiq will follow next year. Skoda is now giving a first look at it.

The term SUV is still sometimes incorrectly equated with “huge car”. The Skoda Epiq provides counter-evidence, so to speak. At around 4.1 m, it is about as long as a current Skoda Fabia. The space available should still be sufficient for young families, who have been identified as a target group, among other things. By the time they get the chance to sign a purchase agreement, 2025 will almost be over.

There are already some rough key data about the Epiq. The starting price of 25,000 euros should be on the same level as the VW ID.2all. We assume that there will only be a comparatively modest reach for this amount. In the top version, 400 km in a row should be possible in the WLTP. Bidirectional charging is also planned, although there is currently no information about how this will be used and to what extent. The engines will produce between 100 and 150 kW. Despite the compact dimensions, the trunk should hold 490 liters, which would be an excellent ratio of used traffic area and space inside.

Apart from a few details, the first pictures show a version that is probably quite close to the series version. There is a small display behind the steering wheel that provides basic information. A large screen for multimedia etc. is attached in the middle. Fixed keys underneath shorten the path to certain menus. Skoda has decided not to do without buttons completely, which is certainly good for functionality. It can be expected that ChatGPT is integrated and that Skoda will not miss out on the business with subsequently activated software.

It is becoming apparent that there is a lot of movement in the segment of electric cars up to 30,000 euros. Stellantis will play intensively in this environment with its brands starting this year. As long as the Citroën ë-C3 and its expected offshoots from Peugeot and Opel are available in sufficient numbers, they should be a success. Renault is entering the market with the R5, which is only visually retro. Volkswagen wants to counteract this again from next year. We can definitely expect more players to join in, as high numbers and strong growth are expected in this class.
