Jakarta

The Indonesian Air Force deployed a Boeing 737-200 aircraft to search for the Smart Air aircraft which lost contact and is thought to have crashed in Nunukan, North Kalimantan (Kaltara). The aircraft was deployed from Hasanuddin Air Base, Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel).

“Today we have deployed Boeing from Makassar and have carried out a search and are still waiting for the results,” said Head of the Basarnas Tarakan Syahril Office, as reported by detikSulselSaturday (9/3/2024).

He said the Boeng-737-200 plane departed on Saturday (9/3) at 11.25 WITA. The search will take two hours by air.

“The estimated search is two hours. From Makassar, first landing in Tarakan, then landing again in the search area,” said Syahril.

“So, we are currently still looking for the actual position of the object we are looking for, the fuselage of the plane,” he continued.

As previously reported, the passenger plane belonging to the Smart Air airline allegedly crashed and hit a hill on Friday (8/3). The passenger plane was said to be carrying basic necessities.
