Sofia Richie Grainge is pregnant with her first child with her husband, Elliot Grainge. The model has been keeping this secret for months. In an interview with Vogue Weddings, Richie spoke about the news.

“I found out very, very early. I was about four weeks pregnant. I was traveling to Milan for fashion week and was going to the Prada show. I was doing a very quick 24 hour return and felt terrible but didn’t think much of it. I thought it was jet lag,” she said.

When she returned to Los Angeles, she initially planned to go to the Ed Sheeran concert with her husband and friends the next day. “I kind of knew it was going to be a drunken night, my period was a few days late, and I wanted to be safe in general, so I took a test,” she recalled.

“Elliot was already used to me auditioning randomly.” The two had been casually trying since they got married in April. “So he didn’t really flinch when I said I was checking. I was doing one of those really bad home tests and there was a fine line. I was so used to seeing negatives that I knew when something felt a little different.”

She promptly told Elliot to get in his car and go to CVS to pick up three more of the best pregnancy tests he could find. “He was so excited,” she remembers.

“We talk on the phone all the time. And when he came home, he was such a sweet guy who always wanted to protect my emotions and expectations, so he kind of sat me down and said, ‘If this is negative, don’t be upset. Our moment will come. When we delivered all three tests at the same time, they all came back positive. He was so excited and we both cried. It was crazy and overwhelming and so hard not to scream from the rooftops. But knowing I arrived so early, I was very protective – even with my friends.”

Sofia and Elliot only shared the news with their parents (and future grandparents) until she reached the eight-week mark. “We went to Elliot’s parents, who live about five minutes away from us, and I think they had a box – I want to say it was a Hermès box or some kind of box – and I told everyone that I had bought them a gift. of Milan Fashion Week”, remembers Sofia. “Everyone was like ‘Ooooh Hermes!’ But then they opened it and it contained all three pregnancy tests. That’s how we told all our parents. Seeing their reaction go from ‘I’m about to get an expensive gift’ to ‘I’m about to get a grandchild’ was really cute.”

“Pregnancy is really scary and you want to protect that space,” she explains when making the decision to hide the pregnancy. “I didn’t know there were so many milestones you needed to hit and so many tests you needed to take. For me, it was very important to protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”

Richie Grainge – like many pregnant women – also realized how little she knew about the female body before pregnancy. “I’ve learned more in the last six months than I have in my entire life,” she admits. “And also exactly what the female body is capable of. Each week brings new things, whether it’s hormonal changes or expansion – there are so many things our bodies go through and it’s so interesting to experience it all.”
