South Korea raised the terrorist alert in five diplomatic missions due to possible attacks by the Kim Jong-un regime

South Korea has raised the terrorist alert in five diplomatic missions following concerns of possible attacks by the North Korean regime of Kim Jong-un. The South Korean intelligence agency confirmed on Friday that they have detected indications that North Korea is preparing terrorist attacks against its officials and citizens abroad, particularly in countries such as China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

The National Intelligence Service stated that North Korea has deployed agents to these countries to expand surveillance of South Korean embassies and is actively searching for South Korean citizens as possible terrorist targets. As a response, the South Korean Foreign Ministry raised the terrorist alert level in five diplomatic missions, including embassies in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, as well as consulates in Vladivostok in Russia and Shenyang in China.

Despite maintaining diplomatic relations with over 150 countries, North Korea has faced limitations in operating foreign missions, resulting in the closure of several diplomatic missions in countries like Angola, Uganda, Spain, and Hong Kong. Recent escalations include the planting of landmines on an inter-Korean highway within the Demilitarized Zone and the testing of strategic missiles towards the Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan.

The regime recently tested an intermediate-range ballistic missile off its eastern coast, further heightening tensions in the region. The missile launch, attributed to an area near Pyongyang, comes as North Korea aims to expand its weaponry aimed at remote US targets in the Pacific. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have been escalating since 2022, with the United States and South Korea enhancing their combined training and deterrence strategies in response to North Korea’s aggressive actions.
