“Thank God, everything is finished. So this is a goodbye event, saying goodbye to Lini’s family and ancestors,” said Sule in the video.

“In fact, Lini will change religions and this has been permitted and Lini has been allowed to marry according to our religion [Islam] “later in Jakarta,” he continued.

CNNIndonesia.com has asked Sule for permission to quote the video.

This statement answers the debate that has emerged on social media recently regarding the marriage that Mahalini and Rizky Febian will carry out.

A number of media and netizens initially suspected that the two of them would marry of different religions. Moreover, they hold traditional processions in Bali on weekends. This assumption was later denied by Sule.

In Mahalini’s farewell procession, Rizky Febian and Sule were present and watched from start to finish. There, Mahalini not only said goodbye and asked for blessings, but also underwent personal cleansing.

The meaning of saying goodbye to Mahalini

“That child [Mahalini] will get married. There is pemrayascita or rustler [pembersihan] physically and spiritually,” said Ida Mpu.

“This is in accordance with traditional Hindu processions because [mempelai perempuan] will go to the man’s family,” he said, who is also a relative of Mahalini.

Apart from saying goodbye, the Mahalini family also held the tradition of otonan or birthday celebrations. According to Ida, this procession is held as a form of parental responsibility towards their children before they are released to live their lives with their future husbands.

“Because later the parents will not hold another otonan ceremony for their child. He is still single. Later because he will join a new family,” said Ida.

“What is clear is that our prayer is that the couple will be blessed, provided with good fortune and will live forever. That is definitely the hope of all of us,” he continued.

Mahalini’s traditional Balinese Hindu procession has all been completed on May 5 2024. She will then have her wedding ceremony with Rizky Febian in Jakarta on May 8 2024.
