Synopsis of Siksa Kubur, Joko Anwar’s Latest Horror Film

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA— The latest horror film from director Joko Anwar starts showing today, Thursday (11/4/2024). The film is an adaptation of the short film of the same name Torment of the Grave (Grace Torture) will feature Faradina Mufti and Reza Rahardian as the main actors.

Film This 117 minute long story tells the story of a woman named Sita (Faradina Mufti) who no longer believes in religion after her parents became victims of suicide bombings.

Sita then looked for the most sinful person to enter that person’s grave. He was willing to be buried alive to prove the truth behind the torment of the grave and the existence of heaven and hell.

However, it turns out that there were consequences that Sita never anticipated for her actions. Previously, Joko Anwar said he wanted to make a horror film that was closer to Indonesian society, with a religious theme.

This film also answers questions and is an antithesis for many people who often say that horror films only focus on ghosts.

“This is my 10th film. “After 20 years of working as a writer and director, I feel like I want to make a film that has more meaning, is more mature, and has a stronger story and character development than my previous films,” said Joko Anwar.

He also made the film Siksa Kubur to make the audience question their faith. The storyline of Siksa Kubur was not made to necessarily focus on sadism, but to move the heart.

“Instead of just presenting jump scares and sadism, Siksa Kubur will bring horror to the audience to the point where they question their faith after watching this film,” he said.

Apart from Faradina Mufti and Reza Rahardian, the film Siksa Kubur also features a number of other stars, including Slamet Rahardjo, Christine Hakim, Djenar Maesa Ayu, Happy Salma, and Fachi Albar.
