One of those who criticized the film was the Chairman of the MUI for Da’wah, Cholil Nafis via his Instagram account. According to him, this film is a black campaign in the name of religion to attract the attention of the audience.
“I don’t know the content of the film so I can’t comment yet. But the picture is scary because the title is Qibla. I’m guessing the meaning of Qibla is only the Kaaba, the direction people pray in. If this is true, this film is really not suitable for distribution and is a black campaign against religious teachings then this film must be taken down and cannot be shown,” said Cholil on his Instagram account as quoted detikSulselTuesday (26/3/2024).

Synopsis of the Qibla Film
The film Qibla tells the story of a girl named Ainun (Yasmin Napper) who lives in the village with her parents’ uwa or older siblings. He himself does not know who his biological parents are.
However, Ainun really admires the leader of the magical hermitage in Bumi Suwung Village named Abah Mulya. It is said that Abah Mulya was so powerful that he was able to cure various diseases and double money.
Because of this admiration, Ainun and her friend Rini (Ria Ricis) often imitate Abah Mulya’s style. However, the situation changed after Abah Mulya died and he found out that Abah Mulya was Ainun’s biological father.
He then found out more about Abah Mulya at his hermitage. In her search, Ainun actually found things that were blocking her. Including no one ever calls to prayer and prays.
This is where Ainun learned that the figure she admired and her biological father was actually teaching her heresy and keeping her away from the Qibla. Ainun then tried to escape from this heretical sect.
