Taiwan detected 36 Chinese military planes trespassing into its airspace in 24 hours, the highest number of the year

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense recorded 36 Chinese aircraft and 6 military ships trespassing into its airspace. China frequently carries out military exercises that trespass into Taiwan’s airspace: the one recorded in the last 24 hours is the highest number of Chinese military assets around Taiwan since the beginning of 2024.

The island of Taiwan is effectively an independent state but China claims it as its own territory. In the last three years, tensions between the two countries have increased both due to frequent Chinese military exercises around the island and because Taiwan has been governed for years by a party that is particularly critical of China and is supported by the United States, which contributed to increasing diplomatic tensions between the two powers.
