The big surprise of the Super Bowl: Beyoncé announces new album

The Super Bowl is THE sporting event of the year in the USA. But millions of people internationally also sit in front of their televisions to watch the spectacle. With performances by various world stars, a huge halftime show and specially created advertising clips for the evening, the actual reason for the event – the NFL finale – becomes almost irrelevant.

Beyoncé, who sat in the audience with her husband Jay-Z yesterday, is also aware of this. Suddenly her face appeared on the screens in a commercial with comedian Tony Hale. The two ponder how Beyonce could “break” the internet. From suggesting a presidential run to traveling into space, Beyonce ultimately comes to this solution: “Bring out the music.”

New album in March

And that’s exactly what she does. Coinciding with the release of the commercial, the words “Act ii” and the date March 29 appear on their website. The musician has also released two songs from her new era. With “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold’em,” Beyoncé teased new music that doesn’t actually correspond to her home genre of R&B and instead sounds like a completely different influence: Country.

And if you look a little closer, you’ll quickly notice that none of Beyoncé’s actions happen by chance. The musician showed up wearing a cowboy hat at the Grammy Awards last weekend – so you could have guessed something back then.

Musically, Beyoncé ventures into new spheres, but at the same time remains unmistakably true to herself. The new songs mix country beats and lyrics about “Downsouth” with her soulful, smoky voice. With the ballad “16 Carriages” and the more driving song “Texas Hold’em”, the singer already presents the broad musical range that the album will feature. The clarity and high quality of the production also convinces that country is not just left-behind redneck music, but has the potential to take over the mainstream this year.
